Why I chose to write about Edinburgh…
I’ve visited Edinburgh on a number of occasions over the years and it’s one of my favourite cities in the UK. Particularly at Christmas time, Edinburgh offers beautiful scenery, delicious food and a whole wealth of exciting culture.
5 things to see and do in Edinburgh
European Christmas Market in East Princes St Garden
The first place on my list has to be the European Christmas Market in East Princes St Garden. I believe that I’ve been to this gorgeous market twice now and each time it’s blown me away by how beautiful it is. Located in the heart of the city, the traditional market offers a romantic experience for every visitor to enjoy its abundance of gift shops, food stalls and arts and crafts offerings! I couldn’t recommend visiting this market at Christmas enough; it truly is a sight to behold!
Edinburgh Castle
Perhaps one of the most famous landmarks in Edinburgh is Edinburgh Castle as it truly is the city’s crown jewel. Being one of the largest and oldest structures in all of Europe, Edinburgh Castle is definitely one of my favourite things to do in Edinburgh. It reminds me of something straight out of a princess movie and if you try hard enough, you can almost imagine living the life of a Royal back in the day…
Royal Mile
Comprising of many shops, restaurants and pubs is the Royal Mile which stretches from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace. Enjoy American styled BBQ food at Bubba Q or satisfy your sweet cravings at the Fudge Kitchen (I’d recommend the sea salted caramel and the Belgian chocolate swirl!).
The Royal Yacht Britannia
Another one of my favourite things to do in Edinburgh is climb on board The Royal Yacht Britannia and discover what it was like on board the Queen’s floating residence. The interior of the yacht really is something to see, whilst it’s been modernised in some places, it still maintains its prestigious character. I would highly recommend visiting the RYB if you’re ever in Edinburgh as tickets are pretty reasonably priced, (around £45 for a family ticket).
National Museum of Scotland
To really experience a cultural visit to Edinburgh, I would recommend visiting the National Museum of Scotland. See the exciting collections of Ancient Egyptian artefacts or stare in bewilderment at the various minerals. The museum also offers free entry but donations are welcome.
Chloe’s Recommendation for Food & Drink in Edinburgh
If you’re wanting to experience a truly fine dining restaurant then I would highly recommend the Kyloe Restaurant and Grill for one of the most delicious steaks and hand cut chips I’ve ever had!
In terms of cocktails, I would advise grabbing a drink (or two) at the Bramble Bar!
